Fiji: the thuggery continues

Another day, another act of thuggery by Fiji's military regime. This time the victim is SDL politician Ted Young, who on Friday suggested that new trade deals should only be made by a democratically elected government. In retaliation, he was "arrested" by soldiers, taken to a military camp, and punched repeatedly by a "very senior" officer before being told to shut up. According to Stuff, a journalist was also detained and assaulted. And people still think this is a "modernising coup"?

According to Hyde n Ceek, the "very senior officer" was coup no. 2 Col. Pita Driti. Unfortunately, given the military's post-coup immunity decree, the chances of him being prosecuted for assault are slim.
