Fiji: arrests

For the last two weeks, Fiji's nurses have been on strike in an effort to reverse the 5% pay cut and reduction in the retirement age imposed unilaterally by the military regime following the coup. Today, a group of them peacefully protested outside a Cabinet meeting considering their pay claim. They were arrested. So it seems that the dictatorship is quite happy to use the police as a weapon in their industrial dispute, despite the interim Labour Minister's declaration that the strike was legal and that participants should not be victimised.
