Good news for the whales

Iceland has cancelled its commercial whale hunt on the basis that its uneconomic. Apparently, there's no domestic market for whale meat, and they can't export it as its covered under CITES.

Unfortunately, the lack of any market hasn't stopped Japan's "scientific whaling" program. But the primary "research" they now seem to be doing is measuring the shelf-life of frozen whale meat.
