The Solomon Islands has a new Prime Minister. Like his short-lived predecessor, Manasseh Sogavare has previously been in government and is tainted by past violence and corruption - but as this recent story on Scoop points out, it may be difficult in the short term to find politicians who aren't. More importantly, Solomon Islanders (or at least Solomon Islands MPs) voted for him, and so we have to work with him regardless. If we'e unhappy about that, we should come home now, because the alternative - interfering in Solomon Islanders' democratic choices - is simply unthinkable.

What's your call? if he is violent and corrupt and his government reflects that should we still prop it with our forces based on the fact that anarchy is much worse?
