More absenteeism

While I'm on the subject, according to Radio NZ, the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill was passed on a 68 - 51 vote. Doing the maths, that means Labour, Progressives, Greens, Maori Party and NZ First lined up against National and United Future. Guess who's missing from this picture?

That's right - ACT didn't turn up to vote. Again. I wonder what their excuse is now, now that they're both no longer distracted by guns and dancing respectively?

I was in Question time and Act were there then.
Hide was talking shit to the Speaker as usual.
Maybe they abstained?

He might have popped out for a meeting and missed the vote, but its a bit of a bad look. Now Heather is back, you'd think they'd take their job seriously enough that at least one of them would be there.

Waste minimisation at the next election by voting out ACT, I say.

51 + 2 = 53

68 c.f 53 = big friggin majority. Bill still goes through, on FIRST READING!!!!

Really, what use is 53 against, compared with 51 against, on the first reading?

Gooner: its two votes more for a start.

But you're right. I don't know why we bother with having an Opposition at all. let's just sack the lot of them, because clearly they don't do any good [/sarcasm, for the impaired]

Well if you ask me I don't think Act should be a dyed in the wool opposition to the Labour led gov't.

Gooner: then its even more important that they actually show up to vote, so people can see where they actually stand.

And while we're at it, ACT missed another confidence vote - the Appropriation (2005/06 Supplementary Estimates) Bill on Tuesday. Plus some other legislation later in the night - though I note they were there for the Housing Restructuring and Tenancy Matters (Information Matching) Amendment Bill.

No news on the other Member's Bills yet.
