As mentioned earlier, SciFi geekery trumped politics, and I didn't watch the debate - so here's some links to comments from people who did:

I think that you were better off with Dr. Who. It was nice to hear "Ex Termi Nate" again.
The debate was the usual fluffing about with some slight interest in the worm. It does seem that the way to get a good worm result is to talk about nice things.

What a choice, ghastly mutants with no emotions, or Dr Who on the other channel!

You are going to tell us what you thought of "Dalek", aren't you?

Actually I was working on what I thought of the Dunne decision. As for Dalek, I liked it, particularly the moral tension between the Dalek and the new Doctor. He's changed a lot - in Genesis of the Daleks he turned down an opportunity to wipe out the Daleks because it would make him like them; now, as the Dalek said, he would make a good Dalek. Obviously, the war (will they tell us more about that?) changed him; I'm now wondering if he'll get better.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the "leaders' debate" last night. I decided to watch Dr Who instead. Now I've never been a big fan of this occasionally irritating and frequently wobbly series. But I decided to give it a go, what with it being a sort of a cult thing and I hate to be feeling left out of the subcultural loop - even if some of it is more loopy than is good for my soul.
But was I impressed with the Dalek episode? In summary, the Doctor picked up the fagboy from Corrie Street and killed off the last ACT Party voter "I want my FREEEEEEDOOOOOMMMMM" Dalek. Not world shattering and mildly more interesting than NZ politicians spouting soundbites.
