More wind

Genesis energy has applied for resource consent for a massive, 286-turbine wind farm at Castle Hill in Wairarapa. 286 turbines is in the realm of 600 - 850 MW, depending on what turbine size is chosen, so this will make it the country's biggest windfarm - and possibly our second-biggest power station. If constructed, it would double the amount of wind generation in NZ in one hit.

So, after a pause over the last few years, it looks like the wind race is back on. And hopefully this means we'll be meeting that 90% renewables target after all.
